Intensive weekend course – Birmingham and London
Birmingham PLAB-2 Course has been established with
active help from the NHS through the West Midlands
overseas and refugee doctors steering group to
help overseas doctors and refugee doctors wishing
to work in the National Health Service (NHS). We
now offer courses in London and Birmingham
Our course is designed to enhance the chances of a
doctor who has already passed part 1 of the PLAB
test and wishes to take the Part 2 (OSCE)
examination conducted by the General Medical
Council, UK. As the emphasis is on clinical skills
(OSCE) in part 2, the course has been well
designed to meet this challenge.
Difficulties for overseas doctors
1. Not familiar with the NHS.
2. Not familiar with British culture
Best way to teach someone is
1. Make them aware of the system
2. Teach them how one would approach clinical
scenarios in the UK
3. Small groups
4. People teaching on the course are NHS doctors
who have taken the PLAB
We therefore insist on small groups for a one to
one teaching. The places are strictly limited.
2 weekend (4 days) intensive course
1. The course will be conducted over two full
weekends of Saturday and Sunday, so that the full
course is for 4 days
2. The London PLAB handbook will be given as soon
as you register at no additional charge so that
you start preparing for the exam well in advance.
Study material given free of cost
· The London PLAB part 2 handbook
3. Over the 4 days, all the topics will be covered
4. There will be mannequin sessions on both
weekends so that you are confident to demonstrate
on them.
5. The main emphasis will be on role play so that
you improve to exam standards
6. There will be an assessment with mock scenarios
7. The resuscitation talk will be by a
resuscitation council officer and they will be
available during the mannequin session to guide
you through basic life support issues
8. If you wish we can help you with your
accommodation in Birmingham for an additional
charge (we only charge the accommodation charges
incurred)
Additional information
9. All candidates will have a mock examination
which is a full 14 station mock exam under full
GMC conditions. All your answer sheets will be
handed over to you and also there will also be a
feedback to inform you about your performance

Recommended Reading List
We use ' THE LONDON PLAB HANDBOOK PART-2' as a
basis for the topics to be covered on the course
as we believe that this book has the most
up-to-date topics to be covered by the course. You
will be sent the book when you register for the
course and there is no additional charge.
We recommend that the only other books you will
need are the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine
and Specialties
